I certainly hope the skyactiv drivetrain is not this flakey. I drive over 35K miles a year, so reliability is extremely important. My 2005 Toyota (178,000 miles) and 2009 Toyota (172,000 miles) never saw the inside of a dealership either.that is why I am so disappointed in Mazda at the moment. Thanks for the idea about Saturday.I was not aware that they were open. I suspect that it does a lot of processing itself. It is so large and has a thick cable bundle going to it. So unless there is a wiring issue further upstream, the large USB/Aux box may be the issue. It is rather large and was securely connected to the wiring harness. I popped the panel with the USB and the Aux input out of the console looking for a loose connector.

After thinking about it, why would Mazda put the capacity to turn off the USB port? Why have the extra circuitry? I've asked the Sales dept to put me in touch with someone who really understands the audio system.but never got any contact. Anyone know where fuses are on this car?Ĭlick to expand.I have read and reread the manual.at least the sections on the audio system. Again, both USB devices work properly on a laptop.so no data corruption. There is a lot of junk in the center console and may have bumped the USB drive causing a short just before I arrived home when I last worked. I'll look and see if I see a fuse somewhere that could be blown. Not something that will endear the car or dealership to me. Which will mean I have to take off work losing vacation time AND pay to wait in the waiting room for a long time for the pleasure of finding out what I did. But the way it quit working suddenly after I was showing my daughter some of the features, I suspect an operator issue. It looks like originally it would come up if there was a USB device attached.

I was hoping someone had experienced this before or heard how to get the option back online. Thanks to all before who posted on the core issue of the jack being bad.I feel that the USB not working is probably because I pushed some button, selected some feature or otherwise did something scrolling through all the options, THAT TURNED OFF THE USB. I just removed the circuit board from the LDPE mounting housing and permanently soldered/shorted the sense pin to ground right on the circuit board. The jack is soldered onto a larger assembly circuit board containing the interface plug back to the stereo system. The core issue was indeed that the little 3.5mm input jack's "plug detection" conductor was internally broken. Again, don't ask me why they would have taken this effort to disallow this choice w/o a physical plug inserted into the AUX input jack.

The stereo software will not allow the user to select the "AUX"/(media) input unless there is a plug inserted. GND, LEFT audio analog IN, RIGHT audio analog IN, and this plug-SENSE IN (grounded = plug inserted). This 3.5mm socket (and the circuit going back to the stereo) has 4 conductors. When a 3.5mm plug is inserted into this jack it is supposed to "ground" its "sense" pin and this is used to electronically detect the presence of the inserted plug. For some (I think ODD) reason the engineers used a "sensing"-style 3.5mm input jack. It was the internals of the little 3.5mm stereo input jack.

The posts here helped me solve the problem. I have the '08 Mazda 5 and was experiencing the same issue with the"Media" button on the radio console, as well as the "Mode" button on the steering wheel stereo controls not ever selecting the "Aux" mini stereo input jack next to the accessory power socket. I know this is a Mazda CX-9 forum but luckily a Google search landed me here.
